জহিরুল ইসলাম। জন্ম ৩০ মে ১৯৬৯, পিরোজপুরের মঠবাড়িয়া উপজেলার ঘোষের টিকিকাটা গ্রামে। শৈশব-কৈশোর কেটেছে মঠবাড়িয়ার অপরূপ প্রাকৃতিক নৈসর্গের ধুলোবালি, কাদাজল গায়ে মেখে। বাবা মৃত আনছার উদ্দিন আহমেদ, মা পিয়ারা বেগম। পেশা সাংবাদিকতা। বর্তমানে দৈনিক বাংলাদেশের খবরের সম্পাদনা বিভাগে কর্মরত। এর আগে কাজ করেছেন দৈনিক জনকণ্ঠ, আমার দেশ এবং সকালের খবর পত্রিকায়। শিশু-কিশোর উপযোগী গল্প, উপন্যাস রচনা এবং অনুবাদ ছাড়াও পত্রপত্রিকায় ছোটগল্প, ফিচার ও নিবন্ধ লিখে থাকেন তিনি। তবে তার মূল ভাবনা শিশু-কিশোরদের নিয়েই। ছোট্ট সোনামণিদের জন্য সহজ-সরল গল্প এবং ছোট থেকে বড় সব বয়সের শিশু-কিশোরদের জন্য গল্প-উপন্যাস রচনা, অনুবাদসহ তাদের পাঠোপযোগী সব ধরনের প্রকাশনার আলাদা এক ভুবন গড়ে তোলার উদ্দেশ্য রয়েছে তার। জহিরুল ইসলাম বিশ্বাস করেন, শিশুমনে সুন্দর কিছু গেঁথে দিতে পারলে তার রেশ থেকে যায় আজীবন। সে লক্ষ্যেই তার লেখালেখি। লেখালেখি ছাড়াও ভাসমান শিশুদের মুখে হাসি ফোটানোর উদ্দেশ্যে গড়ে তুলেছেন ‘শিশুদের জন্য সুন্দর পৃথিবী’ নামে একটি সংগঠন। সংগঠনটির প্রতিষ্ঠাতা সভাপতি তিনি।
