The existing known reserves of the commercial energy including natural gas are modest in comparison to development needs of Bangladesh. Md. Mosharraf Hossain / মো. মোশারফ হোসেন

Md. Mosharraf Hossain obtained the degree of M.Sc. Engineering in Mineral Production Management from Imperial College, London, UK, 1976 and B.Sc. Engineering in Mining from the University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore, Pakistan, in 1964; securing 1st position in the First Class with two gold medals. After a brief stay in the University of Engineering and Technology in Dhaka as a Lecturer in the Metallurgy Department, he joined the then East Pakistan Industrial Development Corporation (EPIDC) in 1964 as an engineer assigned to the development of gas and mineral resources. Since then he continued working in the mines and minerals sector, in different capacities in the Sector Corporation and Planning Commission, till he retired as the Chairman of Petrobangla in 2001. Mr. Hossain was the founder member of the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) and worked as the Chairman of BERC during the first year of its operation (2004). Mosharraf Hossain has been closely associated with the exploration and development of the oil, gas and mining projects in Bangladesh.
