Thoughts on Insurance: Bangladesh Perspective
The aim of this work has been to present before the readers a comprehensive overview of the insurance industry of Bangladesh. This is a collection of several subjects, although not coherent yet have been presented in symmetrical manner, beginning with the early history and ending with the latest development of the sector in world perspective. In abroad, there is lack of information about Bangladesh insurance industry. Even within Bangladesh, there is no consolidated information about the infrastructure of insurance industry, it\\\\\\\'s development and the problems being faced. At the government level also the sector is not given proper attention compared to banking sector although there is no denying the fact that without proper development of the insurance sector, economy of the country cannot flourish. In this book, the author tried to bring various subjects under one roof so that one may get a comprehensive picture about this vital sector of our economy. This work will bring benefit to the readers in getting a glimpse of the past, present and future scenario of this industry.
A.B.M Nurul Haq has been in the insurance more than four decades. Mr. Haq obtained Masters Degree from Dhaka University in 1963. In 1964, he started his career in insurance with Eastern Federal Union Insurance Co. Ltd. He was the founder Company Secretary and Personnel Manager of erstwhile Federal Life & General Insurance Co. Ltd. and Secretary of former Surma Jiban Bima Corporation. Mr. Haq served as General Manager of Jibon Bima Corporation, Managing Director of Northern General Insurance Co. Ltd. Managing Director of Islami Insurance Bangladesh Ltd. Presently, he is the Managing Director of Global Insurance Ltd. Mr. Haq is an internationally reputed and professionally qualified insurance executive of the country. He has received higher training on Insurance in Karachi, Pakistan; Switzerland, Germany and Japan. Mr. Haq has written two popular books on insurance viz, Jiban Bima Bikroy Babosthapana and Islami Insurance (Takaful). Besides, he is a regular contributor on Insurance and other subjects in different local and foreign Journals and dailies.//// এ.বি.এম. নুরুল হক ১৯৬৩ সালে ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় থেকে কৃতিত্বের সাথে এম.এ. পাশ করেন। কিছু সময় শিক্ষকতা করার পর ১৯৬৪ সালে তৎকালিন পাকিস্তানের বৃহত্তম বীমা কোম্পানী ইষ্টার্ন ফেডারেল ইউনিয়ন ইন্স্যুবেন্স কোম্পানী লিঃ এবং মেঘনা ইন্স্যুরেন্স কোম্পানী লিঃ এর ম্যানেজিং ডিরেক্টর হিসেবে কর্মরত ছিলেন। বর্তমানে মেঘনা ইন্স্যুরেন্স কোম্পানী লিঃ এর কনসালট্যান্ট হিসেবে কর্মরত আছেন। জনাব হক দেশে বিদেশে বীমার উপর উচ্চতর প্রশিক্ষন লাভ করেন। তিনি এদেশের একজন আন্তর্জাতিক খ্যাতিসম্পন্ন দক্ষ বীমাবিদ। তাঁর লেখা জীবন বীমা বিক্রয় ব্যবস্থাপনা, ইসলামী বীমা (তাকাফুল) এবং Thoughts on Insurance নামক তিনখানা বই প্রকাশিত হয়েছে। বিভিন্ন ইনষ্টিটিউট, একাডেমী এবং শিক্ষা প্রতিষ্টানে অতিথি বক্তা হিসেবে প্রশিক্ষন দান করে থাকেন। এছাড়া সেমিনার, সিম্পোডিজয়াম ও ওয়ার্কশপ অনুষ্ঠান ও সংগঠনে আন্তর্জাতিক সুনাম অর্জন করেছেন। বইপত্র সংগ্রহ ও পড়া এবং লেখালেখি করে অবসর সময় পার করেন। তিনি রোটারী ক্লাবসহ বিভিন্ন সামাজিক প্রতিষ্ঠানের সাথে জড়িত আছেন।
